Architecture in Manningham

Updated: Nov 7, 2019

Being an architectural practice in Doncaster East, Architeria Architects naturally get a lot of queries about building and developing in Manningham. At Architeria we do town planning and design all around Melbourne but being local architects of Manningham, I guess it pays off to know your neighbourhood and as the saying goes – there is no place like home.

Manningham is magical and offers great living for everyone; families, downsizers and first home buyers. Manningham has some of Eastern Suburbs best primary schools and great shopping at Westfield Doncaster. The walking trails, playgrounds, riverside beauty, the green belt and the charming village of Templestowe with fine dining all contribute to the high living standard that is noticeable in Manningham.

Architeria Architects, the local architects to Manningham have been contributing to its growth by designing some of the finest houses in the area. Each residential area of Manningham has its own characteristics, and equally each street and precinct have their own feel that has developed through the years.

The earlier settlements started around the 1850s in Doncaster and in Templestowe the village was established around the same time with roads leading to the gold fields of Warrandyte. The more substantial development started in the 70s and 80s with subdivisions creating residential blocks. Today, Templestowe has some of Melbourne’s most opulent homes on low density residential one-acre blocks and quality townhouses are increasingly starting to pop up with the beautiful village with its amenities easily accessible.

During the property boom few years ago, Doncaster and Doncaster East grew rapidly with more high-density developments approved and ready for construction. Doncaster is today a well-established and highly sought after residential and commercial area with apartments completed and occupied near activity centres such as Doncaster Shopping Town and The Pines Shopping Centre. We also see the growing trend of more intense development down Manningham Road towards Bulleen with medium size apartments and terraces popping up.

Manningham offers such diversity for its residents.

The beautiful Warrandyte with its views of the Yarra River, local shops and coffeehouses is a host to hidden treasures of houses in bushy settings. Park Orchards and Ringwood North are established lower density residential areas characterised by large dwellings on large lots.

The lush and green rural suburb of Wonga Park amongst wineries, equestrian centres and the fantastic walks to Mt Lofty offers lifestyle properties with large resort style properties on large acres for those who treasure the country vibe but want to have the convenience of the suburban life as well as the city within easy reach.

For architects, a design should incorporate all the needs and wants of its residents but equally important is the fact that the development meets the future needs and strategies of the area. We appreciate the working relationship that we have with Manningham Council’s town planners and we understand that being the bridge between guidelines and regulations on one side and the clients who is also the resident on the other side is an extremely important role.

Manningham City Council has, as all councils, strategies and planning policies in place that reflect the future needs of a growing population. Doncaster is expected to continue to grow, as are the other suburbs in Manningham. According to Forecast ID, between 2016 and 2036, the population for the City of Manningham is forecast to increase by 26,363 persons (21.45% growth), at an average annual change of 0.98%.

We continue to see the demand for new subdivisions and higher density developments and we take it on as architects to be mindful in our designs. Our aim is to create functional spaces, good living, creative solutions that are aesthetically pleasing and we approach architecture with a vision of an improved environment. We love designing for Manningham and we hope to be a part of an evolving community and that our designs will be a positive contribution to the community and its residents – both future and present.
