As one of Mornington Peninsula’s most popular coastal destinations, Sorrento is known for a mix of a colonial past and recently more contemporary architecture. Sorrento offers respite from the heat to Victorians during the summer months and is sometimes referred to as the Australian equivalent of the Hamptons, which can be reflected in some of the Hamptons style architecture in the area.

In its neighbouring Portsea, modern architecture has taken shape with buildings constructed in concrete, wood and steel, combining rustic with modern, and blending with the environment. In coastal areas with sandy dunes and native vegetation, choosing an architect responding to the site and its challenges makes a vast difference.

Some of Mount Eliza’s elite homes are situated on clifftops, with water views which on a clear day can capture Melbourne City skyline. The cliffs and bays are today facing some climate change challenges, not only I Mount Eliza, but along the coastlines in Victoria. We recommend a mindful approach in design taking into consideration potential erosion hazards that unfortunately pose a threat to buildings along the cliffs and bays around Mount Eliza.
