In this week’s “Conversations with an Architect”, we chose to discuss a subject that comes up often when designing homes for our clients: the choice between concrete and structural timber for upper floors. Because the choice affects construction timelines, comfort, and a home's character, I asked Mel Gawi to explain his preference and why comparing the two should go beyond price.

As an interior designer, I am not a big fan of following trends. I believe that interiors should be timeless and endure beyond what media and trends dictate. And since home décor and design are personal choices, trends don’t necessarily work for everyone. Minimalist or maximalist, traditionalist or modernist – there is no judgement. Instead, I will walk you through the interior styles I believe will be most popular in 2026.

Designing Parkwood allowed us to do everything we cherish and love. As a classic home drawing influences from period homes, the interiors had to complement the exterior and feel authentic to what we wanted to achieve.
